Florence Hummerston Reserve

March-May 2011
City of Perth
Contract Value $540,000

This project was the enhancement of this focal reserve located in the heart of the business district on the corner of St Georges Terrace and Mount Street.

The work encompassed survey, set out, location and protection of all existing services. Clearing all existing furniture and asphalt pavement and removing all unwanted soil and fill to new levels.

The works entailed building of a small tiered retaining wall the length of the Mount Street perimeter. Construction of radial foot paths including cobbled paved edges compacted base course and asphalt paving as well as a Donnybrook stone pathway and curved feature stone clad concrete steps in keeping with and the restoration of the existing Donnybrook water feature. The supply and installation of new lighting and curved bench furniture. The soft landscaping of the park includes protection of existing trees and planting of new trees and plants. Installation of a water bore supply and reticulation to the park as well as other adjacent areas

As with the majority of our work the inner city, logistically challenging situation of the site dictated the manner in which the work is undertaken. Our intent was to carry out the work in the shortest amount of time (completed well within our projected contract period) with the least disruption to the stakeholders in the immediate and surrounding business district. The impact of the works was kept within the site with the majority of the deliveries/ collections being carried out before the commencement of peak traffic in the morning. A temporary lane closure on Mount Street alongside the site was granted, however site organisation and construction sequence enabled us to undertake all the deliveries within the site.

This was another project that The MG Group undertook as head contractor displaying our ability to program and manage works.
